We are able to spend a considerable amount of time discussing some of the issues that occasionally arise in the District
Friday 23 July I visited the RC of Isle of Thanet. President Dale and the members are addressing the issue of how to increase club membership. They have a great programme in place which I am sure will produce more members and a very enjoyable and productive Rotary year
Saturday was the morning for the first District Executive meeting of the year. This was held at Stone Court Hotel, Maidstone. I invited all your District Team. More details at the District Council Meeting on 8 September
On Tuesday 27 at Lunchtime I travelled to Chistlehurst Golf Club for the meeting of the Rotary Club of Bromley. The club has several projects on going. One successful project at the moment is the “Sunshine Borehole Project “ in Kenya. Martin Print from “Footsteps International “one of the charities involved gave a short update on the project and presented me with an Elephant, a wooden one of course. I presented Past President Tony with a Presidential Citation from last year. President Iain indicated that the club would expect to recruit 3 of 4 new members this Rotary Year
On 27 in the evening, we travelled back to North Kent for a visit to the RC West Wickham. Although a small club in number a very active club. The club concentrates on “Fun Fellowship and Service” President Keith stated. The club hopes to gain 5 new members this Rotary Year, and has plans to hold a concert in a theatre under Charing Cross Station
On Wednesday 28 Sue and I were invited to present the prizes at the District Bowls Competition. This was held at the Canterbury Bowls Club ground, and organised by the President of the Bowls Club Rotarian Mike Talbot. It was a very enjoyable day, in good weather conditions. The winning team were from the RC Crayford, who will arrange the Competition next year.
I am very pleased that the majority of clubs in 1120 are going to be involved in Rotary Day – Thanks for Life, 23 February 2011. This is a Public Relations exercise to promote Rotary. It is also Membership recruitment opportunity. Thirdly, it is once again to raise funds to complete the eradication of Polio. More information on this project will be circulated to clubs from John Davies District coordinator soon.
