Ladies Evening 29th October, Conningbrook Hotel.

Community Radio was the topic and David Wimble and Liz Pope did an excellent job in communicating

their enthusiasm for the Marsh FM Radio Station. With no paid employees the station relies entirely on volunteers

who are not only DJ's but perform other duties that keep the station on the air during its four week block. The license fee was £4000 and so plenty of advertising had to be sold to keep the books balanced for even this short period.

David and Liz were keen to invite any and all organisations to use the station to publicise their events and he

expected to make a major commitment to publicity for the Baa Baa next year and aim for 200 hundred participants!!

DG Visit - July 16th 2009

Franks full of optimism, Rods not too sure           Oh dear, we started in daylight,

                                                                                        Rods made his mind up.

When Frank stole his opening humorous incident story, Euan probably realised that his assesment

that we were a 'unique club, suited to the Marsh' applied in more ways than one. However, he highlighted the very real problem of the future being in our hands it was put into sharp focus when only four members could raise their hands as being  below 55yrs. So the message was unequivocal,  get your 'ASK' in gear.

Damien Collins ~ Ladies Evening  Thursday, April 23rd

With a new venue, The Ship Inn, Dymchurch, to stage the evening it was perhaps fitting that a new 'prospective MP, should also be given the once over by the Rotarians and their partners.  With a brief of 'The local economy of Romney Marsh' it was not surprising to hear a politician deliver three humorous anecdotes before mentioning Romney Marsh. With scarce a breath between sentences Damien was able to explain, comment and refine our previous understanding of this area of economic interaction. A vote of thanks was eventually delivered by Rotarian Roger Joynes to bring the evening to a close.

Rev. Jim Field- March 5th 2009

With an unbeatable first line,  'I first saw my wife's knickers....' the club members listened with renewed interest in just a few of the incidents that Jim had experienced since becoming ordained. Bodyguard to Princess Diana, Diplomat to Gypsey communities and the normalsing of 'haunted homes' to illustate a range of work showing the special qualities that we expect of our men in white collars. Welcome to our club and community and we wish him every success in developing his ministry on Romney Marsh.

Bring-a-Friend   January 15th 2009

With club members on their best behaviour it was pleasing to welcome  Ruth Woohams from the Ranger unit at 1st Greatstone Guides as our speaker.

Ruth was to join the South East Kent Group on their visit to Ketok in Kenya. Her first priority was to raise the £2500 travel costs. With commendable determination she set about organising BBQ's, Craft Stalls and also secured grants some of which came from Lydd Council and ourselves.

Taking as much camping equipment as they could the six Rangers were to have the experience of a lifetime. Some of which was getting extremely wet  as a storm struck and they had to abandon camp!. The equipment is left with the host centre to be used constantly  throughout the next two years. By which time it has deteriorated and the 2010 group will renew them.

A highlight for Ruth was the Amani Street Children’s School. With recently upgraded premises they were a valuable resource in their community getting orphans off the streets and into a safe and caring centre. Ruth was hopeful of one day returning and the club promised to support this venture if she could get the other rotary clubs backing the other team members.

Spencer Buck proposed the vote of thanks in his most eloquent style.
