Presidents Charity Presentation - January 29th. 2009
Some 15 rotarians and their ladies gathered at the Paula Carr Trusr HQ to receive a thorough briefing from the Chairman, Mr Gary Fagg. Diabetes can be a killer and the outreach programme of screening is a fantastic service to the people of Kent. With two nurses to demonstrate the eye screening machines it was reassuring that the guinea pigs were passed as 'eye-fit'. After the ceremonial handover of the £3500 cheque, the staff joined us as guests at The Conningbrook Hotel and a convivial evening was had by all.
Club Night January 15th 2009: Bring-a-Friend
With three guests amongst us members were almost well behaved. A warm welcome was extended to all and we were further entertained by our guest speaker, Ruth Woohams from 1st Greatstone Ranger Unit. This young lady showed tremendous determination to raise the £2500 required for her participation on the South East Guide trip to Kenya. This was achieved through a range of fund raising events from BBQ’s, Craft stalls, grants from Lydd Town Council, Business support and ourselves. Her reward was a memorable trip and she highlighted the Amani Street Orphanage as one of the places she’d like to return to. With this in mind Rotary President John made an offer to assist, if her team were to recruit their particular local RC as well. Spencer Buck gave an appreciative vote of thanks.
Ladies Night- Royal Oak- Oct 30th 2008
An excellent meal for our ladies was followed by a short but informative talk from Janet White who has co-ordinated the establishment of an MS Group in New Romney. We have funded the project for its first year.
MOBILE PHONE COLLECTION BOX INSTALLED
Our thanks to the management of Sainsbury's New Romney for agreeing to have our collection box at the store. It is wall mounted facing all the customers as they leave the store. Only mobile phone hand sets are required at present but perhaps we might add inkjet cartridges at a later date. So it only remains to get it filled so spread the word and tell your friends about it!
