ROTARIANS meet weekly for fellowship and interesting and informative programmes dealing with topics of local and global importance. Membership reflects a wide crosssection of community representation.
THE ROTARY CLUB OF MARGATE which has 35 members (including 3 lady members), was founded in 1921 and is the oldest club in District 1120 which has 83 clubs coveringKent, East Sussex and parts of London.
ROTARY'S MAJOR PROJECT is to achieve the elimination of Polio world-wide. In 1988 350000 cases of Polio were reported(1000per day). In 2009 cases were down to just over 1000 in the whole year. Only 4 countries remain and a major effort is underway to complete the elimination as soon as possible. This has ben greatly helped by a donation of $255 million by the Gates Foundation. Rotary will match these funds to the extent of $200 million over the next 4 years
