An event which Riverside tried for the first time on November 2nd 2001, the Boxing Evening was the brainchild of our president Terry Shead, in support of one of his aims for the year - to raise enough money to buy a new MPV ambulance for the local St Johns Ambulance.

We are well on the way. 330 Rotarians and guests helped us raise £17,500.

Terry's top table guests included former World Flyweight Champion, Charlie Magri, who presented the trophies, DG Bob Metcalfe, president Roger Hext from Maidstone RC, Major Damar Ghale of the Gurkha Regiment and David Charman, Ambulance Director of St. John.

The reason everybody was there, St Johns Ambulance. The poster slogan reads "Help us to help them to help you!"

The boxers came from the local Westree Boxing Club, and all bouts were fought under strict supervision and in accordance with Amateur Boxing Association rules

.

Trophies were presented by Charlie Magri.

Charity funds were boosted by a raffle and an auction, superbly handled by John Butler of Lambert and Foster. Lots included autographed sports gear (and an Albert Square signboard)

Many thanks to all of our sponsors, especially Baker and Haycock who supplied the trophies.
