By spending your agreed amount, The Whitstable Rotary Club get a 4% monthly "dividend" from Sainsbury's which currently goes to the Club Rotary Foundation Committee's fund raising target each year. A very simple and easy way to raise funds for our Club and for The Rotary International Foundation aims, one of which is to eradicate Polio from the World.

Often asked questions are

Can the vouchers be redeemed at any Sainsbury store or outlet?.    Yes

Do the vouchers have the same value as cash?                             yes

What can the vouchers be used for?      The purchase of any items that are sold by Sainsbury's

Can I obtain refunds against purchases?        Yes

How much can I spend on vouchers?   Our scheme has a minimum of £50 per month but some members are having £200 or more

Since the scheme started some 20 members of the Whitstable Rotary Club joined the scheme which is currently being reviewed and updated and the Club Foundation Committee fund raising from this source alone has received over £1000 from the 4% dividend that we get. The payment each month to Sainsbury's by BACS allows the Club Treasurer to deduct the appropriate 4% so it goes directly to the Club Charity account on a monthly basis.

Members in the scheme are currently considering increases to their monthly voucher purchases and the scheme is being offered to new members of the Club and we hope to be able to get "dividends" for Foundation of £1000 per year without too much effort on the part of our 40+ members.

In December 2009, The Whitstable Rotary Club were presented with an award from District Governor Ewan Eddy for the Club Contributing most per member for the Rotary Foundation Cause in District 1120 which has 83 Clubs.

Therefore members of the Whitstable Rotary Club seriously consider if you can join this scheme and help us to maintain our present premier position within District 1120.

Other Rotary Clubs might wish to explore the scheme and its benefits.for their own Club.

In January 2009, the Club introduced this scheme to its members asking if they or their family shopped at the Sainsbury SuperStore, be it for fuel only or for normal grocery shopping. By agreeing a fixed amount of monthly spending, you can have a standing order paying that agreed amount to the Whitstable Rotary Club Bank account on or around the 1st of each month. Vouchers to the same value in units of £20, £10 & £5 are issued to each member who has agreed to join the scheme. No admin charges or costs are made so no loss to the member and Nectar points are still given in exchange for the vouchers when paying your bill at any Sainsbury's Store in the UK.

Foundation - Sainsbury Discount Scheme

As a past Chair of the Club Foundation Committee, I was tasked with finding a source of regular Fund raising activity by our Club President for the Foundation Cause, Rotary International's major charitable fund.
