Bat & Trap
On Thursday evening 18th September, a hardy group of souls ventured out to the Red Lion at Dunkirk to do battle with the elements ( it had rained hard on the previous two year's fixtures!) but we needn't have worried - nature smiled on us with a clear, if slightly cool evening, so we did battle with the opposition instead !
This comprised of a mixture from Herne Bay and Chestfield clubs so with us there was about 35 participants in all, divided into six teams. The idea was to have five matches, each playing each once, but after three rounds , with the food being served, common sense prevailed and time was called . This led to some discussion as to who had actually won but as a Herne Bay team was probably in the lead at this stage with three wins, the Duckworth-Lewis formula was applied resulting in Whitstable taking first, second and third places ! ( we wish )
Nevertheless, a splendid time was had by all; hard competition and good fellowship - we look forward to next time ! Thanks to all who came and watch out for the forthcoming event - shooting !

Clay Pigeon Shooting

On 6th December 2008 an extremely hardy group of souls from Whitstable braved the freezing conditions on the Isle of Sheppey at the invitation of the local Rotary club for a mornings clay pigeon shooting. For many of this brave band it was their first attempt and success levels varied widely, although most did return with reminders of the day in the shape of bruised shoulders, except for those more experienced who arrived with suitable padding !

All participants completed the course of 25 shots followed by hot drinks and rolls ( or complete breakfasts in some cases!) after which a handful of the more foolish ones shot a further 25; clearly the revitalising tea break had worked ! In fact success levels soared ( this group did have the advantage of the more experienced coach) , and everyone finished with a great sense of achievement.

Thanks to all who attended, and we will return for a second attempt when the weather is a little warmer !
